In April 2021, Rijeka Development Agency Porin became the headquarters of the "EUROPE DIRECT Rijeka" center for the area of ​​the City of Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in the period from 2021 to 2025.

EUROPE DIRECT Rijeka officially started operating on May 1, 2021, as part of the Europe Direct network in Croatia and the new generation of Europe Direct information centers throughout the EU, whose network is managed by the European Commission.

  • The task of the center is a direct link between citizens and EU institutions. EUROPE DIRECT Rijeka acts as an extended arm of the European Commission that provides support in the immediate flow of information related to the opportunities and advantages available to citizens of EU member states - to the local population at the level of the City of Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
  • The aim of the center is to bring Europe closer to people on the ground through various activities and to encourage them to participate in discussions about the future of the EU, which will also include visits to primary and secondary schools where presentations will be held, discussions about the EU will be held and official publications will be distributed.

Europe Direct centers represent important links between EU institutions and citizens, providing timely and objective information on European issues, and seeking to involve citizens in discussions about the current state of the European Union and its future. Thanks to the activities of informing and involving citizens, the center will contribute to the European public sphere and raise awareness of the EU and its priorities, opportunities and challenges it faces.
