On 7 March 2023, INNOVATHON was held at the Torpedo Production Park as part of the TEMPUS (TEMPorary USes as start-up actions to enhance port (in)tangible heritage) project from the Interreg V-A Italy-Croatia Programme, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
INNOVATHON is an open competition for innovation, a ‘marathon of ideas’ to encourage participants to challenge with the aim of contributing to innovation processes. They focus on finding innovative and creative solutions and drawing inspiration for new actions, products and/or services. Participants are invited to design an innovative project based on their technical knowledge, creativity, adaptation spirit, problem-solving skills and teamwork: During the event, participants are grouped into teams and will have to work together to find common solutions to the challenge, contributing to their individual experiences and differences, and co-developing ideas.
Five teams consisting of 18-35 year-olds from the economic, public and educational sectors engaged in creating ideas for the pilot Rijeka and proposed the following ideas through a full-day program:
New European Bauhaus – a new use of unused port heritage facilities;
Torpedo 101;
Rijeka's heritage;
Application for a fun acquaintance with the cultural and historical heritage of Rijeka;
River – past and present.
The jury will evaluate each idea based on the set criteria, and the best will be in the competition for the selection of the best from all three pilot cities (Rijeka, Ravenna, Solin) which will be evaluated by an international jury composed of representatives from Croatia and Italy. The best ideas will be presented at the final event of the project, which will be held in Bari at the end of March.
INVENTO Summit The Power of Giving Back will take place 24 March 2023 at Hotel Academia in the centre of Zagreb. It will bring together 15 experts from Chicago and 200+ professionals from Croatia, Slovenia, S. Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of deep-tech, urban mobility, business development and investment.
This event will encourage technology experts, representatives of VC funds and successful entrepreneurs to tell their experiences about the challenges and opportunities in the world of startups. All this will be packed into panel discussions, interesting speeches from foreign experts and Startup competition with partner awards.
INVENTO StartUp Competition presents an opportunity for startups from the Balkans (Croatia, Slovenia, S. Macedonia, Montenegro and BiH) to become part of the portfolio of Invento Capital Partners. The call is open to startups at all stages of development, regardless of whether it is just an idea, whether the entrepreneur is looking for his next customer or planning to expand on the international market. As part of the ‘Optimisation of Production in 3DP – 3DoP’ project, we participated in the first partnership meeting in Brussels on 14-15 February, bringing together all 33 project partners.
At the meeting, the partners got to know the work of other partners better, but also their tasks on the project as well as the tasks of other partners. The project started on 1 January this year and lasts until the end of 2025, and at this meeting we started developing ideas for technical solutions and many other aspects of the project.
About the project
3D printing (3DP) has shown the potential to increase productivity, combine functionality and foster smart and green transitions. However, despite the clear advantages of 3DP in optimizing production processes, there are still significant bottlenecks that hinder the implementation and acceptance of 3DP.
3DoP aims to remove bottlenecks in competitive prices and quality levels compared to traditional production and unlock productive investments through:
Development of technical solutions in 4 targeted areas of application (‘Investment packages’).
Setting up an integrated framework of innovation and investment ecosystems.
Generations of sustainable investment chains of close-to-market and SME-led projects.
The implementation of 3DoP will have a major impact on EU production ecosystems through the sustainable optimisation of production processes. This will be done through the cooperation of the quadruple helix in the implementation of 3DP-based solutions that open up investments in regions and value chains.
The duration of the project is 3 years, from 1 January 2023 to 31/12/2025.
The project is funded by Interregional Innovation Investments (I3) and is one of the first such projects in Europe.
Porin participates in the development of technical solutions for electronics embedded in polymers and the exploitation and sustainability of investments.
Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Thursday 16 February at 6 p.m., is a research and restoration project The Goldoni case. For the first time in more than four decades, the project presents Goldoni's 1973 sculpture Core (Forged Glass) to the public.
The presentation will include a lecture by a more conservator-restorer Duške Sekulić Ćiković, video interview with Livia Segus, Goldoni's friend and glass collaborator, and the results of a complete 3D scan of the sculpture. The interview was created in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, and the 3D scanning project in cooperation with the Rijeka Development Agency Porin. With this presentation, MMSU marks the 40th anniversary of the premature departure of the artist Raoul Goldoni.
The sculpture and video interview will be available to the public the next day, on Friday, February 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the possibility of an expert presentation upon announcement.
