The Porin Development Agency of Rijeka and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rijeka invite you to the one-day congress ‘3D print in medicine and engineering’, which will be held on Thursday, 27 June 2024, starting at 10 a.m. at the Torpedo Production Park of the Porin Development Agency of Rijeka at Milutina Barača 60.

Kvarner and Istria are a highly desirable destination for dental tourism due to their quality, expertise and affordable prices for foreigners. However, the highly developed dental industry of the region offers not only the opportunity to strengthen health tourism, but also to strengthen research and development activities that will, as a result, improve service, speed up processes and reduce costs.

For this reason, the Porin Development Agency of Rijeka, as the professional base of the University of Rijeka, and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rijeka are organising a one-day congress ‘3D print in medicine and engineering’, through which representatives of the academic and entrepreneurial sectors will be introduced to new trends in the possibilities of applying additive manufacturing in the dental industry and medicine.

In addition, the partnership between the Rijeka Development Agency Porin and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rijeka will be presented, thanks to which the equipment will be the Torpedo Production Park Make the Rijeka development agencies Porin available to R&D projects and innovation processes.

In addition to numerous lectures and panel discussions that will cover a variety of topics related to the application of additive technologies in the dental industry, the event will also be able to discuss opportunities for cooperation and how specifically the Rijeka Development Agency Porin and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rijeka can help them solve everyday challenges. Our goal is to collect feedback from representatives of the dental industry through the event, which will become the basis for some new research and development activities directed towards the dental industry as well as medicine.  

At the end of the program, there will also be demonstration examples of 3D printing with examples for medicine, especially the dental industry. Among the equipment stands out EOS M 100, a machine that uses a laser beam to melt and blend fine metallic powder, producing parts very quickly, in small quantities and with high detail resolution making it ideal for use in dental medicine for making dental crowns and bridges.

This Wednesday, 15 May 2024, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and members National Contact Points (NCP) the LIFE Programme; the Conference Hall the Torpedo Production Park, presented a European Union instrument intended to finance activities in the fields of environmental protection, nature conservation and climate action.

The presentation was organized in order to bring the program closer to potential beneficiaries, i.e. project promoters who have the opportunity to co-finance their initiatives with the LIFE program, so that they can find out all the possibilities and ask questions directly from key persons in one place. Specifically, the LIFE programme offers co-financing benefits for project initiatives in the range of 60% (for SAP projects) up to 95% (for CSA coordination and support actions) costs, if the projects submitted correspond to at least one of the four LIFE thematic areas also presented individually to those present. The LIFE Programme supports projects in the field of: Nature and Biodiversity, Circular economy and quality of life, Climate change mitigation and adaptation and Clean Energy Transition (CET).  

The programme of events took place in two parts:

• presentation for business users where interested representatives from the business sector could develop ideas and strategies for using LIFE financial benefits in green projects that will strengthen and modernise their business activities 
• presentation for scientific-research users where representatives of various institutions and civil initiatives could observe and elaborate with leaders the potential of the LIFE programme to co-finance scientific and research projects

In both parts of the program, the director Nenad Antolović and the head of the program addressed those present in front of the Rijeka Development Agency Porin. Europe Direct Rijeka, by Ana Jerkovic. In the central part of the programme, presentations were made by already existing beneficiaries of LIFE financial support; Representative of the Istrian Regional Energy Organisation – IRENA implementing the project JUSTEM (JUStice in Transition and EMpowerment against energy poverty) and project partners Contra Ailanthus which deals with the establishment of the control of the invasive alien species Ailanthus Altissima in Croatia. 

It's every year 9 May an opportunity to remember the beginnings of the European Union and back in 1950 when it Robert Schuman in his historic speech, he set out the idea of a new form of political cooperation in Europe. Schuman’s aim was to change the way people think in Europe in order to reach the public and encourage governments to work together.

And this year, with a series of activities, we celebrated Peace and togetherness.

On Wednesday 8 May, the Vice-President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography, Dubravka Šuica, visited Rijeka with the theme ‘Democracy and Demography in the European Union – Achievements and Challenges“. So that not everything remains only on the words, achievements and opportunities that Rijeka has used through the project European Capital of Culture, presented by Director Nenad Antolović with a guided visit the Children's House with Ivo Marđeja, organizer of the program at the Children's House. Vice-President Šuica enthusiastically stated that for the first time she saw a house intended exclusively for children, and she visited all 27 Member States of the European Union.

On the very day of Europe, 9 May, we are with our Centre EUROPE DIRECT Rijeka joined Europe Day Celebration Event organised by the European Commission and the European Parliament Office in Croatia. In the House of Europe, we listened to the panel discussion “Citizens' Panel - View from Croatia’ and later we joined a rich programme on European Square that included EU sings, EU cinema and a host of other content.

On Friday, May 10th, we participated in the Public Tribune "Europe connects us: How do EU projects affect the development of the region and the quality of life of citizens?" Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the Regional Development Agency of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County commemorated Europe Day. Director Antolović joined the panel discussion on “Youth Needs in the EU“.

Celebrating this year's Europe Day we have concluded socializing with entrepreneurs from both our business incubators through interactive quiz It shows us how much we know about the EU and its institutions. The event with a row of laughter, interesting quips and new information ended with the distribution of prizes to the most successful teams, which we congratulate and this way on the demonstrated knowledge!

And 74 years after Robert Schuman presented his proposal to form the European Coal and Steel Community and thus officially kicked off the European Union era, 9 May remains the day when we celebrate European unity and proudly highlight the common anthem and flag.

This important day will also mark Europe Direct Rijeka with RRA Porin, because on the coming Friday, 10 May 2024 starting at 3 p.m., in the conference room the Torpedo Production Park Here comes the celebration of European proportions!
