As the only project partner from Croatia, we will host 11 February 2025 the Conference Hall the Torpedo Production Park, first national meeting of project partners URBANFLOODS.
Local authorities and national stakeholders from different sectors (civil protection, environmental protection, water management, geodetic institutes, spatial planning and construction, Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, etc.) will come together to discuss public policies and flood management strategies; and shared insights about Urban Flood Resilience in Croatia and the countries of the Adriatic-Ionian region.
With the aim of fully understanding the objectives of the URBANFLOODS project and involving all participants, except for the discussion on public policy related to flood management, the test (pilot) area for Rijeka – lower watercourse of the river Rječina will also be presented; This will be used to create a demonstration digital model for similating risk situations in creating a comprehensive IT solution for informed decision-making (Decision Support System or skr.DSS).
Relevant local and regional stakeholders (NGOs, departments of the City of Rijeka, officials of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County…) were invited to share their practices and plans. In addition, the professor dr. sc. Bleeding from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Rijeka will moderate the professional part of the program with a special emphasis on positive experiences in co-creating flood protection, prevention and protection measures and examples of good practices.
This meeting is one of the first steps towards the exchange of information as well as the collection of data when necessary, networking of different stakeholders and a common understanding of why the development of a digital model that will serve for flood risk simulations is a Rijeka contribution to the design of a common model for the Decision Support System (DSS) for the countries of the Adriatic-Ionian region.
More than twenty institutions have been invited, some of which will be engaged online because they have their headquarters in Zagreb. Their expertise is expected to contribute to both components, policy development, i.e. the definition of protocols, transnational strategies and action plans, and the development of a single decision support system.
