It's every year 9 May an opportunity to remember the beginnings of the European Union and back in 1950 when it Robert Schuman in his historic speech, he set out the idea of a new form of political cooperation in Europe. Schuman’s aim was to change the way people think in Europe in order to reach the public and encourage governments to work together.

And this year, with a series of activities, we celebrated Peace and togetherness.

On Wednesday 8 May, the Vice-President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography, Dubravka Šuica, visited Rijeka with the theme ‘Democracy and Demography in the European Union – Achievements and Challenges“. So that not everything remains only on the words, achievements and opportunities that Rijeka has used through the project European Capital of Culture, presented by Director Nenad Antolović with a guided visit the Children's House with Ivo Marđeja, organizer of the program at the Children's House. Vice-President Šuica enthusiastically stated that for the first time she saw a house intended exclusively for children, and she visited all 27 Member States of the European Union.




On the very day of Europe, 9 May, we are with our Centre EUROPE DIRECT Rijeka joined Europe Day Celebration Event organised by the European Commission and the European Parliament Office in Croatia. In the House of Europe, we listened to the panel discussion “Citizens' Panel - View from Croatia’ and later we joined a rich programme on European Square that included EU sings, EU cinema and a host of other content.


On Friday, May 10th, we participated in the Public Tribune "Europe connects us: How do EU projects affect the development of the region and the quality of life of citizens?" Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the Regional Development Agency of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County commemorated Europe Day. Director Antolović joined the panel discussion on “Youth Needs in the EU“.

Celebrating this year's Europe Day we have concluded socializing with entrepreneurs from both our business incubators through interactive quiz It shows us how much we know about the EU and its institutions. The event with a row of laughter, interesting quips and new information ended with the distribution of prizes to the most successful teams, which we congratulate and this way on the demonstrated knowledge!
